Sports Cell in St. Mary’s Women’s Engineering College plays a crucial role in promoting physical fitness, teamwork, leadership, and holistic development in students. The Sports Cell of the college also aims to empower female students through sports, fostering self-confidence and equality.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Sports Cell :

1. Planning and Organization

  • Develop an annual calendar of sports events, including intercollegiate tournaments, intramural competitions, and fitness programs.
  • Plan training sessions, fitness programs, and workshops for skill development.

2. Infrastructure and Resources

  • Manage sports infrastructure, including playgrounds, gymnasiums, and equipment.
  • Ensure the upkeep and availability of sports facilities and resources.

3. Talent Development

  • Identify students with potential and provide professional coaching and support.
  • Arrange for participation in district, state, national, or international tournaments.

4. Inclusivity and Equal Opportunities

  • Promote participation in sports among all students, including those with disabilities.
  • Encourage women to participate in traditionally male-dominated sports.

5. Health and Fitness

  • Collaborate with health professionals to promote fitness programs, yoga sessions, and wellness workshops.
  • Address the physical and mental health needs of students through regular fitness assessments.

6. Financial Management

  • Prepare and manage the budget allocated for sports activities and infrastructure.
  • Ensure transparency and proper utilization of funds.

7. Collaboration

  • Partner with local sports organizations, clubs, and government bodies to provide opportunities for advanced training.
  • Work with academic departments to maintain a balance between academics and sports.

8. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain records of student participation, achievements, and event reports.
  • Submit periodic reports to the college management or governing body on the activities and achievements of the Sports Cell.

9. Encouragement of Extracurricular Excellence

  • Award and recognize outstanding performers in sports to motivate others.
  • Organize guest lectures or motivational sessions with renowned athletes.

10. Organizing Special Programs

  • Host awareness programs on women’s empowerment through sports.

The above committee members shall oversee the following tasks on a regular manner :

  1. To assist and encourage the students to participate very actively in organizing and conducting various sports and games both indoor and outdoor in the college during Saturday afternoon sessions for all students of engineering streams.
  2. To organize intra-class & inter – class sports and games competitions at the college level to identity talents in various sports and games both indoor and outdoor to build a strong college level teams to participate at the State Level and National Level competitions.
  3. To encourage the students to actively participate in various sports and games competitions conducted by other colleges.
  4. To organize college level sports and games competitions both for students and staff as part of the college annual day celebrations.
  5. To organize annual region/state/national level inter colligate sports and games competitions in the college to promote “Unity in Diversity”.
  6. To maintain records of sports and games events attended by students within the college, within the university and outside at the region/state /national level and their achievements/ awards.
